Uganda Pickleball Association: Growing the Sport Nationwide and Building a Future in Athletics

The Uganda Pickleball Association is making waves in the country’s sports scene with its ambitious mission to grow the sport nationwide. With a strong focus on recognition and talent development, the association is determined to introduce pickleball to all corners of Uganda.

The recent Independence Pickleball Tournament held in Kampala was a significant milestone for the sport in Uganda. Drawing over 50 participants from various categories, the tournament showcased the growing interest in pickleball among Ugandans. Fred Oija, a key organizer, highlighted the importance of spreading the game to every district in order to increase its visibility and discover new talent.

With plans to expand pickleball to different regions and districts, the association aims to create a national network of players and coaches. By tapping into Uganda’s rich athletic talent pool, the association hopes to establish a competitive environment that could eventually lead to international participation in pickleball tournaments.

The emphasis on introducing pickleball to schools and communities beyond Kampala is a key strategy for the association. By engaging the youth and fostering interest in the sport at a grassroots level, the Uganda Pickleball Association is laying the foundation for a sustainable future for pickleball in the country.
