New ADA-Compliant Playground and Pickleball Courts Open at Otsego Park in Dix Hills
The Town of Huntington is making waves in the community with the recent unveiling of a newly redesigned playground and six new pickleball courts at Otsego Park in Dix Hills. This exciting project, which took over a year to complete, is not only compliant with The Americans with Disabilities Act but also showcases the town’s commitment to providing inclusive and accessible recreational spaces for all residents.
The new playground features a vibrant and modern structure, complete with a new safety surface, walkways, landscaping, and benches. Additionally, space has been designated for a shaded picnic plaza next to the pickleball and tennis courts, which are set to be added in the future. The pickleball courts, a welcome addition to the park, replace the outdated deck hockey court that had fallen into disrepair.
Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth expressed his pride in the upgrades at Otsego Park, highlighting the town’s dedication to enhancing public spaces for the community. With over $740K invested in the ADA-compliant play structures and pickleball courts, the town is making significant strides in improving its parks and recreational facilities.
Otsego Park, already a popular destination with 14 playing fields, basketball courts, lighted tennis courts, and a comfort station, is now even more appealing with these new additions. Plans to upgrade the baseball field with a new turf infield playing surface are also in the works, further enhancing the park’s amenities.
Smyth and his team have been diligently working on restoring and upgrading parks throughout the town, with other notable projects including Al Walker Park, Crab Meadow Beach Playground, Whitman Park, and the all-inclusive playground at Heckscher Park. The town’s commitment to creating inclusive and modern public spaces is evident in these ongoing efforts.
As the town looks towards the future, Smyth has plans to continue upgrading additional parks, including Columbia Street Park, Koster Park, William Burn Park, and phase two of the Crab Meadow Beach Playground. With the support of partners like the Environmental Open Space Park Fund and the Citizens Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities, the town is able to make these projects a reality.
Overall, the upgrades at Otsego Park are a testament to the town’s dedication to providing top-notch recreational facilities for residents of all abilities. The newly redesigned playground and pickleball courts are sure to be a hit with the community, further solidifying Otsego Park as a premier destination for outdoor fun and recreation in Dix Hills.
