Fairmont and District Lions Club Completes Two Major Projects in Wilder Memorial Park

The Fairmont and District Lions Club has been hard at work completing two major projects that are sure to enhance the community’s recreational opportunities. The new community garden and pickleball courts in Wilder Memorial Park are now open for all to enjoy, and the Lions recently held a grand opening to celebrate these exciting additions.

Wilder Memorial Park was already a beloved spot in Fairmont, but with the addition of the community garden and pickleball courts, it has become even more appealing. Lions past president Lynda Devenish expressed her gratitude for the community’s support in bringing these projects to fruition, noting the significant volunteer effort that went into making them a reality.

The two pickleball courts, which are said to be the best in the Columbia Valley according to Devenish, took two years to build but are now complete and free to use. The community garden, which features 20 garden boxes, a gazebo, water well, picnic table, tools, and more, took 14 months to build and involved over 50 Lions members and volunteers. While the garden boxes are already planted this year, they will be available for rent next year to help cover maintenance costs.

The creation of these projects was a true community effort, with fundraising initiatives and volunteer work playing a crucial role in their success. Despite some challenges along the way, including unexpected costs for the pickleball courts, the Lions Club is proud of the final results and excited for the community to enjoy these new amenities.

Overall, the completion of the community garden and pickleball courts is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the Fairmont and District Lions Club and the community as a whole. These projects will undoubtedly provide countless hours of enjoyment for residents and visitors alike, further enhancing the recreational opportunities in the area. Cheers to the Lions Club for their hard work and commitment to making Fairmont an even better place to live and play!
