Akhil Mathur, a seasoned software developer and programmer, has recently made headlines by clinching the 50+ Men’s Singles and 50+ Men’s Doubles titles at the prestigious PWR DUPR India Masters tournament held at the DLTA stadium in New Delhi. Despite his background in technology, Mathur has proven that age is just a number when it comes to excelling in sports.
In an exclusive interview with Pickleball Now, Mathur shared his passion for pickleball and how it has become more than just a sport for him. “It is not about age, it is about the passion and dedication you bring to the game. Playing pickleball gives me motivation and keeps me looking forward to each day,” he said.
For Mathur, pickleball is not only a sport but also a social activity that has allowed him to forge new friendships and connections. “One of the best things about pickleball is the community aspect. You get to meet so many interesting people and everyone has a story to tell. It is as much about the people as it is about the game,” he added.
Prior to his success in pickleball, Mathur had competed in ITF Seniors tournaments, which helped him make a smooth transition to the sport. Despite facing physical challenges during the tournament, including back-to-back matches in different age categories, Mathur’s love for the game kept him going.
“Playing in multiple categories was definitely challenging, and there were times when I felt exhausted. But the love for the game and the thrill of competition kept me going. The addiction to pickleball is real,” Mathur shared.
Mathur’s journey from a tech whiz to a pickleball champ serves as an inspiration to many, proving that with passion, dedication, and a love for the game, anyone can achieve great success in sports.
