New Pickleball Courts Debut in Chelsea’s TimberTown Park
Are you a pickleball enthusiast looking for a new place to play? Well, look no further because Chelsea, MI has just unveiled six brand new dedicated pickleball courts in TimberTown Park! These courts are part of the exciting “TimberTown Reimagined” project, which aims to improve the park’s infrastructure and develop it as a trailhead for the Washtenaw County Border-to-Border Trail.
The Chelsea Pickleball community played a significant role in bringing these courts to life, raising an impressive $175,000 in just 90 days through private donations. Groups like the Chelsea Senior Center Pickleball and Chelsea Pickleball have been advocating for courts like these for years, and their hard work has finally paid off.
Pickleball has been gaining popularity in recent years for its unique blend of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong elements. The sport involves trying to get a plastic, perforated ball over a net with a paddle, either solo or with a teammate. With the new courts in TimberTown Park, pickleball enthusiasts will have organized open play seven days a week, ensuring that players of all skill levels can enjoy the game.
Open play hours are from 9 a.m. to noon every day and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, providing ample opportunities for players to connect and enjoy the sport. The courts also feature a rotation board on-site to help players find games with others present.
While the courts are located in Chelsea, they are open to anyone interested in playing pickleball. Laura Ouellette, a USA pickleball district ambassador, is excited about the connections that will be made on these courts and looks forward to welcoming players from all over.
In addition to the pickleball courts, TimberTown Reimagined is also working on the demolition and reconstruction of the park’s wooden play structure, set to take place in August. To learn more about the project and stay updated on its progress, visit the TimberTown Chelsea website or follow them on social media.
So, grab your paddle and ball, head to TimberTown Park, and join in on the pickleball fun! Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, these new courts are sure to provide hours of enjoyment and friendly competition.
